Power Over Diabetes

A Diabetic Nation

According to the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report, more than 100 million adults in the United States are living with either diabetes or prediabetes as of 2015.

30.3 million Americans have diabetes.

84.1 million Americans have prediabetes, which (without proper treatment) will develop into diabetes within five years.

These numbers are on a clear trend and it is increasingly an alarming epidemic. This health problem has even earned itself the spot as the seventh leading cause of death in the United States!

Type 2 diabetes was once thought to be an adult condition but has been quickly shifting to affect children as well. Between the years 2011 and 2015, the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in children and teenagers has more than doubled.

Type 1 diabetes, however, is much less common, but the numbers are still concerning. As of 2017, approximately 1.25 million Americans have been diagnosed with this type of diabetes.

As functional medicine practitioners, we know that our health is truly in our hands. To see these statistics is disheartening and it is imperative we do something about it.

If you, too, are concerned about the growing dominance of this dangerous disease, join us for Power Over Diabetes.

Functional Care

Functional medicine serves as a combination of conventional medicine and complementary healthcare. It is guided by the following principles:

> Each patient is an individual with varying needs based on their genetics, environment, and unique health history.
> Health is identified as a dynamic balance of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well being, rather than just the absence of disease.
> There is a complex mix of interactions between nutrition, physical activity, organ integrity, and stress management.
> Comprehensive laboratory testing and diagnostic measures are needed to ensure efficient and optimal care.
> Prevention and treatment of complex, chronic conditions need specialized care.

Diabetes, specifically, is an abnormal blood sugar and insulin response. To best understand, prevent, and treat this, it is critical to first understand how normal physiology works and what you can do to restore your body’s natural processes.
